Results are presented of experiments tracing the registration by ground magnetometers of an artificial MHD echo generated by a powerful pulse current in a ground loop contour. A data analysis was made of several magnetic stations for 16 experiments with a giant loop-current contour yielding a magnetic flux of about 10 exp 6 nT/sq km. Only several rather weak bursts were registered (they appeared 78 +/-2 s after the main switch impulse). Taking into account the actual magnetosphere tube configuration for L approximately equal to 5.5 and Kp of not more than 2, it is shown that the signal with such a delay corresponds to the propagation of an artificially excited Alfven echo returning from a magnetoconjugate ionospheric region. The amplitude exceeded the theoretically calculated one by one order of magnitude.
