The beginning of airglow studies is India is discussed as well as airglow studies carried out during 1954-1970, and studies performed after 1970. Past and present activity in India can be classified as follows: (1) the study of nightglow emissions, (2) dayglow studies, (3) general photometry of twilight, (4) the study of rocket-released chemical vapors, and (5) theoretical and laboratory studies. The spectral scan of the Fabry-Perot spectrometer at 147 + or - 5 km is shown.
