The heterodyne receiver system used aboard the Kuiper Airborne Observatory is described. High resolution detections of CO(J = 7-6, 9-8, 11-10, 12-11 and 14-13), are presented. The down converted signal is amplified by low noise amplifiers and decomposed by an acousto-optical spectrometer. The spectrometer has a maximum bandwidth of 1200 MHz with a resolution of 1.8 MHz. At 3000 GHz, this yields an instantaneous velocity range of 150 km/sec with a resolution of 0.2 km/sec.
