AGILE observed the Virgo region for a total of approximately 4 weeks in two separate occasions. The first pointing was carried out during the Science Verification Phase in early July, 2007, during a reported optically high state of 3C 279. The second AGILE pointing was carried out during the period December, 15, 2007 - January 8, 2008. During this period, a multifrequency campaign for 3C 273 has been performed with simultaneous data from AGILE, REM, INTEGRAL and SWIFT observatories. We present the results of our observations of 3C 279 and 3C 273. In particular, during the December-2007/January-2008 observation, 3C 273 showed a transition from a low state of gamma-ray emission to a high state. The source was simultaneously detected by AGILE in the hard X-ray and gamma-ray energy ranges, providing a very interesting set of data. We will discuss the theoretical implications of our observations.
