If a recently measured vapor pressure function of tektite material is used, trajectory and ablation analysis gives a band less than 2° wide, and adjacent to the skipping limit, for the entry angles of button-type australites. Problems of shape, distribution and atmospheric flight of tektites can be solved if tektites are assumed to have ablated from a hypothetical skipping parent body. In particular, this hypothesis explains the narrow range of shallow entry angles of australites. Aerodynamic evidence precludes terrestrial origin of tektites or tektite material.
