Investigations related to atomic and molecular processes are considered. Advances in understanding gross auroral morphology have come from ground-based studies employing all-sky cameras and meridian patrol spectrographs. Results obtained with the aid of satellites are also reported. Developments related to theoretical models are discussed along with studies in the area of photometry. Attention is also given to ground-based imaging, satellite imaging, particle precipitation, ionospheric electric fields and currents, and the artificial aurora.-
