The present conference on advanced optical telescopy encompasses topics on the Multiple Mirror Telescope and National New Technology Telescope projects, site testing methods, space telescope design, telescopic arrays and active optics, the design of telescope enclosures, structures and supports, and advancements in control and pointing systems. Attention is given to IR thermography and observatory thermal pollution, polarimetry with multiple mirror telescopes, a novel meteorological approach to astronomical site selection, ground turbulence at the Mauna Kea observatory, the optical design of an astrometric space telescope, and field-of-view considerations for telescope arrays. Also considered are a long baseline spatial interferometer for the IR, the National Optical Astronomy Observatories IR adaptive optics program, the Optical Very Large Array, the protection of large tescopes from earthquakes, the Apache Point Observatory 3.5-m telescope, and the manufacture of large lightweight mirrors.
