Quantitative, colorimetric determinations were made of the amount of copper adsorbed to the surface of fine-grained quartz particles from dilute, aqueous, copper solutions of varying concentration and pH. It was found that the amount of adsorption varies roughly as the square root of the concentration of copper ions in solution, within the pH range where copper does not precipitate as hydroxide and where the adsorbing surface of the quartz has a net negative charge.
