We argue that adding large apertures with adaptive optics to an optical
interferometer improves the performance of the interferometer in two
ways: it improves the signal to noise of bright, low-visibility fringes
and it also improves the sensitivity of the interferometer. A simple
model is presented to support this conclusion.
