We present the initial results of a new program to measure neutral emission in the immediate vicinity of Io using the Mt. Wilson adaptive optics (AO) system. With adequate local seeing, the Mt. Wilson AO can provide 0.06" image quality on extended targets such as Io. The first observations for this program were performed on 2 August, 1998, and consisted of a series of on band-off band images of Io using a narrow band Na D-Line filter. Subsequent observations will also employ and narrow band OI (6300 Angstroms) filter. We provide here a sample of these first images, showing both the raw and processed data. In addition we show the results of differencing the on and off band exposures to identify any Na emission in the immediate vicinity of the satellite.
