The Advanced Development Program and the National Solar Observatory within NOAO are engaged in the development of adaptive optics for both solar and stellar observations and for visible and infrared telescopes. These different applications require different techniques but also share many common aspects. The author reviews these programs, discusses results of their analysis, discusses some of their hardware and project towards future plans.
