Relations between the magnetic field and solar activities are examined, taking into account the production of magnetoacoustic waves which heat the chromosphere and the corona. The energy for heating the corona is mainly provided by magnetohydrodynamic waves. Thermal instabilities and their consequences are considered along with the formation of the fine structure of the chromosphere and phenomena related to the annihilation of magnetic fields of opposite direction. Flares are produced by the annihilation of large-scale magnetic fields in the lower corona.
