A possible design of a balanced two-stage pendulum vibration isolation system for longbase laser interferometric detectors is briefly described, and results of the experimental testing and modeling of a simplified prototype version are reported. In the balanced two-stage pendulum, the test mass and the reaction mass are suspended from the same intermediate mass, and most of the feedback signal is applied to the intermediate and reaction pendulum masses. Good agreement is obtained between the experimental results for the prototype system and model predictions. The application of the system to laser interferometric gravity wave detection is discussed.
