An accuracy estimate in the determination of satellite orientation in the case of unperturbed satellite motion about the body's center of mass when a one-vector or two-vector system of measurements is attempted in the case of unoriented satellites. A magnetometer-based single-vector sensing system and a two-vector system incorporating a solar sensor in addition are used. Measurements are taken in the satellite's structural coordinate system. Orientation parameters are estimated using the maximum likelihood method and the rms value of a criterion characterizing the maximum angular error in determination of the onboard instrument axis position in space. The measurements are then used as initial data for the satellite equations of motion about the mass center, ratios of principal axes of inertia, and angles specifying the mutual position of the satellite principal and structural axes.
