A mechanism for the accumulation of oxygen ions in a geomagnetic trap is examined in more specific terms than in earlier studies, and preliminary numerical estimates of the observed phenomenon are presented. The analysis employs a simple model which assumes a dipole geomagnetic field, with a magnetic anomaly resulting from the displacement of the dipole relative to the center of the earth.
