Begelman (1978) has shown that for accretion of gas by a Schwarzchild black hole, the critical point or points can be obtained from a cubic equation. From an approximate study of the cubic equation, Begelman (1978) has concluded that for a gas with 1 ≦ γ < 3, there is one and only one critical point. A more careful study made here reveals a second critical point for 1 < γ < 3/2.
