A theoretical analysis of the general pulsar kinematics and supernova envelope dynamics is presented. It is found that over a period of several months after the collapse of a supernova the entire radiation energy output of the resulting pulsar will be absorbed by the envelope, first arresting the inward motion of the latter, then forcing its expulsion.
