Hst Proposal Id #7778 Quasar Absorption Lines

Scientific paper

Bright quasars that have a large z{em} and no intervening Lyman-limit systems with large column densities present an excellent opportunity to learn more about distant intergalactic gas regions at very high temperatures. This program has the objective of registering absorption features from the doublets of Fe XVI, Si XII, Mg X and Ne VII, which have rest wavelengths of {361, 365}, {499, 521}, {610, 625} and {770, 780} Angstroms, respectively. He I lines at {537, 584} A will also give some insights on the ratio of densities of gas particles and uv photons in the intergalactic medium.
