Interaction-induced light scattering spectra from gaseous helium are measured up to 740 cm-1 at room temperature and for various densities. From our data, depolarized and isotropic components induced by binary interactions are extracted in absolute units over a large frequency domain unstudied as yet. Comparison of our experimental data is made with results from a quantum-mechanical computation based on a recently proposed numerical procedure. The induced polarizability model proposed by Moszynski and coworkers is found to remarkably reproduce the experimental results, allowing for a deeper comprehension of the atomic dynamics at short internuclear distances.
