The systematic errors called the deformations of apparent almucantar are typical for instruments of equal altitudes. It is shown that in the observations with an astrolabe in Poltava the deformations are caused mainly by the errors of the mechanical system moving the astrolabe micrometer. A suitable model is found for the micrometer velocity distortions. The author attempted to create a valid model of empirical corrections for eliminating the almucantar deformations for the 1983 - 1984 period. The results suggest that it is necessary to change some procedures in the initial treatment of observation data. The investigation method for apparent almucantar deformations permits the detection of variations in the instrumental system in different intervals of long latitude series. The author supposes to use the results for the revision of a 35-year latitude series of observations with the prismatic astrolabe in Poltava.
