The effect of the center limb on the form of the bright umbral dots is studied by means of high-resolution pictures of a unipolar sunspot's core, which was observed with several cosine theta values. It is found that (1) the apparent measured diameters of dots appear to become smaller with the decrease of cos theta, in a way that is most pronounced when the cos theta = 0.70 data are compared with that for cos theta = 0.535, and (2) the ratio of the apparent sizes in radial and tangential direction do not exhibit the foreshortening effect often observed in granular structures. It is concluded that umbral dots may be considered definite entities whose properties are different from those of granules with respect to the foreshortening effect.
