Solar Flares: Models, Solar Chromosphere: Heating
Scientific paper
A set of models for white-light flares was calculated with a thin layer (6 - 12 km) in the low chromosphere. It is shown that the specific shape of Hα and Hβ line profiles, which white-light flares often have - the presence of very extended wings, is well explained by the deep position of the dense emitting layer (N = 1022cm-2). The white-light emission for the model with nH = 1016cm-3, T = 7300 - 7600K, N = 1022 equals to about 12%. The emission consists of two parts - emission from the dense chromospheric layer and emission from the photosphere. The possibility of heating the chromosphere emitting layer by energetic electrons and by X-ray is discussed.
