The paper is concerned with the radiation gasdynamic problem of the ablation and deformation of a large cosmic body due to heating by shock layer radiation in the earth atmosphere. The equations of motion for the ablating bodies are analyzed, and the aerodynamic forces and radiant heat flows are calculated simultaneously. Spectral radiation is treated in the diffusive approximation, assuming a locally one-dimensional optical plane layer. Calculation results are presented for three natural cosmic bodies belonging to three different classes (stony and iron meteorites and a snow-ice cometary body).
