The present work describes in general, qualitative terms the basic concepts concerning the solar wind, the interaction of the solar wind with the earth's magnetic field and the formation of the magnetosphere, temperature and density variations through all levels of the atmosphere, effects of earth's rotation on temperature and density, the shape of the earth, and the determination of geoid shape. The evolution of ideas on these subjects is given historical treatment. In this way, an introduction to some current topics in aeronomy and geophysics is given without detailed mathematical analyses.
