After a brief review of the most relevant IUE observational results in the field of T Tauri stars and related objects the impact of such results is discussed. Topics highlighted include: the presence around T Tauri stars of high temperature emitting regions where mechanical rather than radiative heating dominates, high resolution line profiles and their indication of the presence of strong winds, the origin of the continuum and molecular emission, variability, the UV flux and the early solar system.
