A new source of very-high-energy (> 100 GeV) gamma-rays has recently been discovered in the interaction region between the Rosette Nebula and the Monoceros Loop SNR (confidential information). This source is unique in both its location (in spatial coincidence with a molecular cloud and the limb of an SNR) and its point-like nature. The gamma-ray source is coincident with a weak ROSAT X-ray source, but the sensitivity of XMM-Newton is required to identify the nature of this unusual high-energy object.
