This paper presents a two-stream model (TSM) of the convective planetary boundary layer (PBL), which provides a realistic description of basic boundary layer transport features. The TSM is basically an advective model, altough there is a small diffusive component. The model is estimated using data of the transient dispersal of an idealized tracer as well as data describing this quasi-steady-state evolution of tracer distribution to sources at different level. The TSM model is likely to be most useful in parameterizing vertical turbulent transfer in the convective boundary layer when the chemical time scale is comparable to or greater than the convective time scale. A set of parameters is presented which appears to perform well in a variety of situations.
