An investigation was conducted of the spectral properties of individual solar spicules as they evolved with time. A summary of the observations and data reduction procedures is presented and the physical conditions in spicules, inferred from intensity and halfwidth measurements, are considered. A description of the line shapes is provided and variations of diameters within emission lines and between lines are reported. The dynamical state implied from the observations is discussed. Attention is given to measurements of expansions and contractions, differential velocity fields, and line of sight velocities.
