As part of our critical re-examination of the atmospheric and surface retrievals from the Thermal Emission Spectrometer radiances, we are conducting a systematic comparison of our retrievals (based on the Optimal Spectral Sampling model) with the Radio Science temperature profiles. We have identified critical aspects of the algorithm with a large impact on the results (e.g., choice of the a priori and the assumed noise level), as well as those whose impact is less (e.g., the assumed channel frequencies and instrument line shape function). In general, we have been able to obtain match-ups comparable to or better than those obtained for the retrievals available from the Planetary Data System (PDS).
