There are considerable evidences to show that the electron loss in the D-region below a certain altitude is a linear process rather than a quadratic. The existing continuity equation of electron density distribution cannot explain this feature. On the basis of current idea of simpliifed positive ion chemistry, a mathematical expression for the loss rate of electron density is derived. This derived expression shows that the dependence of electron density on its production rate is linear below a certain altitude, above which it is quadratic.
