It is shown that for a fixed efficiency of converted ring current energy model stable aurora red (SAR) arcs are stronger at solar maximum than at solar minimum. The modeled SAR arc electron temperature does not vary significantly with solar cycle in agreement with observational data. The depletion of the plasmasphere during the main phase of geomagnetic storms significantly affects the modeled SAR arc electron densities in the altitude range 200 to 1000 km at solar minimum but not at solar maximum.
