A linearized study of waves in the Martian atmosphere reveals much similarity with those on earth. For motion independent of the meridional direction, approximations can be made from the exact solutions and these can be regarded as a useful guide to the relevance and importance of the waves in the Martian atmosphere. We shall distinguish between acoustic waves, including Lamb Waves, inertial gravity, baroclinic and Rossby waves. The beta effect and Newtonian radiative damping will be included for these longer perturbations.
