Observations of the development and motion of a sunspot seen to have crossed the solar equator are presented. The sunspot appeared on March 16, 1976 as a type B spot of S-polarity, reaching type E two days later. Three crossings of the solar disk were observed, the last one as a type J spot, and in the following rotation only a few plages were observed at the place previously occupied by the spot. During its lifetime, the sunspot traveled westward for 13 days and then back eastward to the longitude of its birthplace in 49 days, a motion typical of spots of long duration. The latitude motion of the spot, however, exhibited unusual behavior, with a mean daily motion of 0.087 deg and an equator crossing from the northern to the southern hemisphere on May 11.
