The simulated excess phases from GPS/MET (Global Positioning System/Meteorology) Level 2 ionospheric data have been used to retrieve the ionospheric electron density profile for the COSMIC. Comparing to an ionospheric global model, results show that the error of NmF2 is between 5% and 25% and the error of hmF2 is less than 13 km during solar maximum and minimum. These errors may come from the assumption of local spherical symmetry and/or low data sampling rate.
