A numerical method of light-curve synthesis is developed for determining the physical parameters of W UMa-type eclipsing binaries. According to this method, an observed light curve is compared with a large number of theoretical curves to obtain an approximate solution, a fine adjustment is made to render the solution more precise, and a parameter is introduced which enables the phase origins to be shifted, if necessary. The light curve of a standard contact binary is calculated to demonstrate the influence of each parameter defining a binary system, and the method is applied to analyze V566 Oph and AB And. The latter system is found to be a contact system with a rather thin convective envelope and a secondary component that is slightly hotter than the primary.
