In the framework of the Southern Proper Motion Program, more than 1000 stars have been selected on a proper motion basis to study the structure of the Galactic Thick disk toward the South Galactic Pole.
A follow-up program is ongoing to obtain for a large fraction of these stars radial velocity, metallicity and abundance ratios.
Radial velocities, combined with proper motions allow a complete dynamical description of the sample, whereas metallicity and abundance ratios permit as well to study the chemical properties and evolution of the Thick disk with unprecedented details.
At present we collected more than 400 high resolution spectra. A progress report of the project is presented.
