A discussion and classifications are presented for the configuration and structure of shock waves both from isolated solar flares and from a series of flares. The introduction of a 'flare situation' concept is found to be useful for the investigation of interplanetary streams and their associated shock waves. A flare situation is characterized by the number of flares in a series, by the spatial, temporal and importance distributions of the flares in the series, and by the magnetic structure of the active regions near the flares. The intensity, configuration, type of interactions and structure of streams may in principle be estimated according to the corresponding flare situations.
