Power spectra of the sky noise at Siding Spring Observatory in Australia, given for wavelengths from 1.6 to 5 microns, indicate that sky-chopping infrared photometers, normally operating at 10 Hz, can be used at frequencies below 1 Hz in many applications. Using an infrared photometer-spectrometer, measurements were taken for atmospheric windows in which observations can be made from the ground using InSb detectors with the wavelengths J, H, K, L', and M. Data on sky emission noise were used to calculate the minimum chopping frequencies for use on the Anglo-Australian Telescope.
