SW Lac is a well-known late-type close binary system with large variation in its light curve. New photoelectric observations in B and V were obtained in 1978 at the Beijing Observatory. The authors attempted to derive a consistent photometric solution by analyzing individually three separate sets of light curves (1953, 1961, and 1978). All the solutions suggest that the system is overcontact and belongs to the W-type W UMa systems. The 1961 and 1978 light curves have essentially identical photometric parameters. The derived mass ratio is identical with the spectroscopic value. However, the 1953 light curves have distinctly different parameters from those of the later years. Two different interpretations are discussed.
