During the Fall 2000 High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) Campaign, the experiments dedicated to the investigation of the propagation of HAARP-generated VLF radio signals through the high-latitude ionosphere, plasmasphere and magnetosphere were conducted. Those coordinated measurements involved the HAARP high power heating system with its supporting diagnostics and the RPI Imager aboard the IMAGE satellite. During the periods of the measurements the HAARP facility generated amplitude HF modulated signals (frequency of modulation 4.4 kHz and 5.9 kHz) in order to produce VLF plasma waves in the so-called Polar Electrojet Antenna. Those VLF waves were observed by IMAGE-RPI satellite as enhanced radio signals. The comparison between the position of the satellite and the observation of the enhanced signals shows that the HAARP modulated VLF signals propagate along the magnetic field lines. This fact is also confirmed by the estimation of the angles of arrival of the RPI received signal. Our study shows that the enhanced signals were associated with the VLF electromagnetic waves due to HARRP heating. The results of the Spring 2001 HAARP Campaign (21 March-15 April) will be reported as well.
