It is proposed to study fast winds in central stars of planetary nebulae (CSPN) from observation of the P Cygni profiles of lines of heavy ions in the 1200-2000 Angstroms range using the GHRS spectrograph with the G160M grating. The purpose is to provide adequate data to investigate the properties of these winds in a sample of three CSPNs, determining in particular: the accurate value of the terminal velocity, the shape of the velocity law, and the mass loss rate associated with the winds. The three CSPNs are particularly outstanding and all of them would contribute in an important way to our understanding of this phenomenon, which plays a fundamental role in the late phases of the evolution of intermediate mass stars.
