Ionospheric data of about 40 years from several stations in India have been analysed to study the f0F2 variability using different solar indices. The nonlinear behaviour observed in f0F2 variability during high solar activity periods in particular has been examined in detail to understand the possible causes for such a departure. The possibilities are a saturating tendency in the solar EUV output itself and a decrease in O/N2 ratio with increasing thermospheric temperature. More definite estimates of EUV and thermospheric temperature are required during very high solar activity levels to understand the physics of the phenomenon.
