The PEARS (Probing Evolution And Reionization Spectroscopically) grism survey provides low-resolution slitless spectra for thousands of galaxies in the GOODS North and South fields. Here we present results of a search for emission-line galaxies using a unique 2D detection method that utilizes the observation that many emission lines originate from clumpy knots within galaxies. We find numerous examples of galaxies with multiple emitting HII regions; many show evidence of variations in H-alpha flux in the knots, suggesting that the differing star formation properties across a single galaxy can in general be probed at redshifts z 0.2-0.4. Line luminosity functions and star formation rates are investigated, as well the morphological makeup of the emission-line galaxy sample. To this end, we also conduct a study of galaxy mergers in the PEARS data, in relation to Straughn et al. (2006) which highlights the "tadpole" phase of galaxy evolution. This study finds that none of the HUDF tadpole galaxies show detectable signs of AGN activity--a phenomenon predicted by numerical simulations. This fact--combined with the tadpole morphology--supports the idea that these tadpole galaxies are in the process of an early-stage merger event, i.e., at a stage that likely precedes the "turn-on" of any AGN component and the onset of point-source variability.
