We analyse a stochastic cosmological model formed by adding a noise term to the equation of state of a perfect fluid Friedmann- Robertson-Walker spacetime. The system of equations can be transformed to that of a simple harmonic oscillator with a multiplicative noise term; this model is unstable in the sense that fluctuations about the mean grow. By a suitable rescaling of the noise term, we obtain a system with an additive noise term which turns out to be stable.
