How large scale environment affect AGN activity and how AGN activity affect the galaxy cluster environment are two related and equally interested questions. Observations of AGNs in and near galaxy clusters may yield useful clues. Recent studies of radio galaxies seem to suggest radio loud AGNs are more likely to be found in galaxy clusters than in the field. The distribution of radio quiet AGN in galaxy clusters is less clear. Some studies have found very significant excess of X-ray selected AGNs in galaxy clusters. We present our preliminary results of a statistical study of X-ray selected AGN counts in cluster environments. The sample consists of 68 galaxy cluster with redshifts between 0.18 and 1.23, all with archived Chandra observations. We show the stacked number counts and the radial distribution of X-ray point sources relative to the X-ray peak of the galaxy clusters. The counts are compared with source counts in a set of Chandra blank fields. We found marginal excess of X-ray point sources (at 2σ level) near the X-ray peaks of clusters in our sample. We discuss the implication of our result.
