Long-slit spectra with velocty distributions of 15 and 55 km/s are used to determine the 2D distribution of the velocity dispersion and of the excitation in the Herbig-Haro object HH2. The velocity dispersion and the excitation show in general high values in a central ridge of HH2 which contains the condensation A-prime, H, G, B and their environment, while both in the SE and in the NW both the velocity dispersion and the excitation are low. An investigation of the small-scale distribution of the velocity dispersion and the excitation in and near individual condensations show that strong, 'high excitation' condensations exhibit a maximum of velocity dispersion and of the excitation either at or very close to the 'center' of the condensation. In the highest excitation condensation A-prime, very large differences are found between velocity dispersions of lines of different ions at a fixed position.
