The Equatorial Ionization Anomaly or EIA is the Ionospheric phenomenon of density enhancement observed at the low latitude regions on either side of the Earth’s geomagnetic equator. The data from the Global Ultra Violet Imager (GUVI) instrument onboard NASA’s Thermosphere Ionosphere Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics (TIMED) spacecraft is used to study the global morphology of the EIA using 1356 Å recombination emissions. The GUVI instrument stopped scanning its field of view from the limb to across the Earth’s disk in December of 2007 due to a scan mirror failure. The instrument is now simply pointed at a fixed scan position at the disk allowing the instrument to collect more photons and produce observations with higher sensitivity. This fortuitous data collection mode corresponds to the recent deep solar minimum and when detecting the nighttime EIA would have been problematic given the earlier nominal GUVI scan mode. We present analysis of the maximum crest intensity and latitude separation of the night time EIA during the deep solar minimum. We compare this with the findings of the imaging mode data from the disk and limb data for the earlier years of operation. This study presents almost a decade-worth of data that provides valuable insight into solar activity dependence of EIA as a factor of the diurnal, seasonal and longitudinal variations. The period of study is unique as it involves the unusually quiet solar minimum interval of solar cycle 23.
