A self-contained aspect system has been developed to record and analyze star fields and report the pointing direction of a payload which uses an altitude azimuth pointing system. This system uses a commercially available solid-state CID television camera and a custom-built microcomputer to take ``pictures'' of star fields and compare them with position information contained in an onboard star catalog to compute the right ascension, declination, azimuth, and altitude of the payload with 0.1° accuracy. This paper describes the hardware and software of the system and reports on the results of the first balloon flight.
