The motion of a large scale construction in Keplerian orbit within a Newtonian central gravitational field is studied. The construction will be modeled by an elastic-viscous body which is dynamically symmetric in its unstressed state and elongated along the axis of symmetry. The body deformations are longitudinal oscillations along the axis of symmetry and flexions of the axis itself. The problem will be considered within the framework of linear elasticity theory, with internal viscosity forces specified by a Rayleigh dissipative function. Differential equations describing the body deformations and its motion as a whole relative to its center of mass are derived. The existence of a motion in which the body's axis of symmetry is perpendicular to the orbital plane of the center of mass is demonstrated. Stability of this motion is studied for the case of a circular orbit.
