A payload achieving high sensitivity and flexibility in its configuration for a series of flights on Spacelab on the NASA space shuttle to measure emission and absorption lines X-ray emitters such as cluster of galaxies, supernovae remnants, and X-ray binary systems is described. It consists of four different systems: the Bragg crystal spectrometer and polarimeter, the transmission grating spectroscopy system, the nondispersive spectrometer, and the large area nondispersive spectrometer. The energy domain and achievable spectral resolution are calculated.
